  1. Symptoms of COVID-19

Cough, fever, body pain, headache, sore throat, the recent loss of sense of smell, taste, and appetite, fatigue, runny nose/catarrh, shortness of breath or difficulty in breathing, diarrhea, or abdominal pain.

  1. Testing procedure

In an earlier phase, a Rapid Diagnostic Testing (RDT) was developed which makes use of an antigen strip in detecting COVID-19 using specimens from the oropharynx and nasopharynx with swab sticks but it is not definitive though with a turnaround time less than 45minutes faster than the PCR test.

The definitive test in detecting COVID-19 is the RT-PCR test which is a real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RRT-PCR) test for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 in the upper and lower respiratory specimens such as nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swabs (upper respiratory specimens), sputum, lower respiratory tract aspirates; bronchoalveolar lavage, nasopharyngeal aspirates via bronchoscopy, can be collected from individuals suspected of COVID-19 by their healthcare provider.

This test can also be collected by self-test collection kit at home when determined and ordered by a healthcare provider with directions of use.

Adequate and accurate testing process/procedure precedes a qualitative outcome of the result or end product.
